The NASHCO VISION

At the inception of NASHCO in 1978 there were few handful of truly professional hairdressers, trained either with foreign establishments in Nigeria or at then famous institutes of beauty in England particularly. The strength of this few by their exposure training was used to encourage unity with other majority members who were mainly owners of salons.

The foundation of NASHCO was therefore built on unity and strength. Our vision was on the platform of the adage “ experience is the best teacher”. That by regular interactions through meetings, manufacturers seminars and demonstration and exchange of ideas and expertise we will rub on one another and this will foster the improvement of not only the practice of the profession but more particularly in understanding the manufacturers prescribed steps of product usage for optimum results.

It is evident that today, as we come of age we have truly achieved this vision.. Salons not only advertise the treatments for hair and body but also engage some apprentices for training who cab be easily recognized board in their uniforms. As a matter of fact proper institutions are now registered under the education board for the purpose of training students for career in hairdressing and cosmetology in line with international standards. Indeed, hairdressing is now a vocation and not just a part time venture.

We have vision for excellence. As creatively is our trademark we beauty with hairstyles in all shades and sizes. If in the seventies and eighties we were influenced by the western styles, today as will be evident by the various hairstyles which You will see on parade, we have taken that which is western with what is African and adopted unique Nigerian hairstyles that are now the envy of international fashions.

In the strength and unity of our coming together as an association, we were solely/dependant on the very few brands of product that were in the market then, we therefore craved for a day that Nigerian made product will be produced to a standard that will not only be used in our salons but in quality and packaging compete favorably with international brands.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that day is already here. Go the length ‘and breath of this country, step across to the west African countries and take a long walk across the African continent, in markets, shops and salons, Nigerian made cosmetics products are proudly displayed side with international brands. This is great delight.

The advent of made in Nigerian products has significantly changed the face of professional hairdressing and cosmetology by not only being the users of the products, but also being able to dictate the quality and presentations of the products through serving of analysts consultants to our manufacturers. Our vision in this regard has been realized as the hairdressers have been elevated from being mere users of products to development managers of manufacturers. It is our hope that this vision will be extended further and embraced by the government by the appointment of professional hairdressers and cosmetologist on the board of relevant agencies, SON and NAFDAC particularly, that determine products standards on both imported and locally produced products.

Ultimately, it is our most cherished vision to hand over the profession of Hairdressing and cosmetology to the up-coming generation of youths who will continue in the upliftment and development of our great profession to greater heights.
